Stress can be present for many reasons, including job transitions, divorce or a breakup, marriage, discrimination, change in financial status, loss, illness, or life transitions. Stress can have physical, mental, and emotional symptoms, including, but limited to, headaches, fatigue, chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, sadness, anger, and feeling overwhelmed. Many people develop potentially harmful coping mechanisms for dealing with stress, including drinking alcohol or taking drugs, smoking, emotional eating and self -harm.
CCP’s therapists are trained to teach you more adaptive ways to manage your stress, including MBSR, or Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, a highly successful program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, that involves maintaining a nonjudgmental state of awareness of your thoughts and emotions in the present moment.
